Axe sketches by Random223 Axe sketches by Random223
I'm not giving an auto increment index for these...

Working for www.tavern-games.com, these are sketches. The axe I have already designing as a lineart shall be (you can find out next week!). You can like 1 or 2 of them, or dislike some. Tell me, witch you would equip when engaging a battle.

All of these are 2handed. Iron has a density of 7,8kg/cubic dm, so I'd be proud if any of you would handle them with a single hand. If you choose by design and not usability (some suck), your choice.

Can download the entire set and show me (in a link) if you have turned out anything from them

Right middle is "sucks". My opinion about it.

Aside from the normal and 2 head, I think the top middle ??? has potential with a bigger extended head and a smaller or non-existent guard (imho).  Halo looks cool too.  Some good design ideas.

Halo 2 because you can also use it as a spear.

Normal and 2H are the best. ??? would be decent if you removed the wierd guard. Love the halo reference.

Unfortunately the less flashy weapons are often the best. I'd like 2 head, but it'd be better if the blades were smaller and the handle longer. I know these are just silhouettes but I think that what's lacking in the shape of the simple and normal style axes can be made up for with a cool design forged onto the metal of the blade.

Out of all of those I would probably choose either the normal or simple for actual combat. Mostly because I could either use two or use one in tandem with a shield.

I may as well give my thoughts on the others (keep in mind that these are evaluations on real world combat feasibility and not aesthetic quality):

???- Extra blade adds unnecessary weight at no benefit.
Batman- Actual a viable design I. Very compact. A good design for a one handed axe, too large for a two handed axe however.
2H- I wouldn't want to use a two handed axe in combat due to its difficulty to wield effectively.
Tortomer- The three strange blades would not be beneficial in combat. Too widely spaced for chopping and too closely spaced for piercing.
Throll- Handle is too short to really be able to chop anything easily.
Ogre- Massive blade and short handle means that it will be hard to hold up, let alone use.
Halo- Made of iron, this design is far too heavy to pick up at all.
Meat- Not bad but the head is too far away from the handle for any real speed. Would pack a punch though.
2 Head- Never been fond of large two headed. A large axe doesn't really have a back-swing and and extra head is essentially dead weight.
Halo/2- Would swing oddly. Perhaps it could be useful but I am uncertain.
Suchs- The spike is to large for this to be used as a chopping weapon. Is only useful as a piercing weapon.
??!- Too unwieldy to use.
Kitchen's- If it was about 8" it would make a nice cleaver. Otherwise it would be ineffective.

As for the actual aesthetic quality of the silhouettes, I would say that they are all very nice. The ones that I stated as being the least useful are the most interesting. Good work!

Thank you.

My op: I'd use normal, simple, like 2hand and halo/2.
